Stage 5: Test

AI Focus Group Feedback

Strict Setup Prompt

Act as a focus group consisting of three distinct members of my target audience (User A, User B, and User C). Your goal is to objectively evaluate my prototype, Community Resource Hub, which is designed to help low-income individuals and families quickly find reliable community resources such as food assistance, housing, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. Evaluate the prototype from each user's perspective and provide constructive, evidence-based feedback. Focus on identifying weaknesses, confusing features, missing functionality, and opportunities for improvement. Whenever you identify a problem, explain why it affects that user and recommend a specific solution. Evaluate the ease of navigation, search functionality, AI Resource Assistant, resource categories, Learn More sections, overall usability, and accessibility. Support factual claims with reliable sources whenever appropriate, but clearly identify user opinions when they are not research-based. Organize the response into separate sections for User A, User B, and User C, and conclude with the most important improvements needed before the next round of testing.

User Backstories

User A: A 22-year-old single parent who struggles to afford groceries and rent. They spend hours searching different websites for food assistance and housing programs but become overwhelmed because the information is scattered and difficult to verify.

User B: A 22-year-old part-time worker experiencing financial hardship who needs healthcare and employment assistance. They rely on friends and local organizations because current community resource websites are confusing and difficult to navigate.

User C: A 19-year-old college student who grew up in poverty and is trying to become financially independent. They need help finding food assistance, education support, and job opportunities but often feel discouraged because they are unsure which programs they qualify for or where to begin.

Questions Asked

  1. Based on our problem statement, how effectively does the current implementation of our prototype address the core issue? Please provide the specific, individualized feedback of User A, User B, and User C.
  2. How well do the specific features of this prototype satisfy the needs and improve the daily life of our users? Do any of the three users disagree on its effectiveness?
  3. How well does our prototype actually align with our stated value proposition? Have the three users briefly debate the biggest barrier to adopting this prototype based on our implementation?
  4. In what specific instances or areas is this prototype lacking, and what actionable suggestions do the panel members have to improve those features?

User Testing Log

Testing Session 1

The Tester & Task

Tester: User A (Maria Lopez – Single Parent)
Task: Find a local food bank and affordable housing resource using the search bar and navigation menu.

Observation Notes

Interview Synthesis

The tester said the website was easier than searching multiple websites, but it still required too much research to determine which programs were the best fit. They wanted personalized recommendations and clearer eligibility information.

Testing Session 2

The Tester & Task

Tester: User B (James Carter – Part-Time Worker)
Task: Search for healthcare services and job opportunities using the website navigation and search feature.

Observation Notes

Interview Synthesis

The tester appreciated having all resources in one location but believed the website needed filters to make searching faster. They also suggested displaying resources by distance or availability.

Testing Session 3

The Tester & Task

Tester: User C (Aaliyah Brown – College Student)
Task: Use the AI Resource Assistant to find education support, food assistance, and job opportunities.

Observation Notes

Interview Synthesis

The tester said the AI Assistant was a helpful starting point, but additional guidance was needed after finding a resource. They wanted step-by-step instructions and application tips.

Overall Feedback Summary

Across all three testing sessions, users agreed that the prototype successfully brings community resources together in one place. However, they identified three common areas for improvement: providing personalized recommendations, improving the search feature with filters and sorting options, and offering clearer application guidance. These findings will guide the next iteration of the Community Resource Hub prototype.

Feedback Synthesis

After reviewing feedback from the AI focus group and user testing sessions, I identified several common patterns. Multiple users experienced similar difficulties with navigation, searching for resources, and understanding what to do after finding a resource. Based on this feedback, I prioritized the updates that will have the greatest impact on helping users quickly and confidently find community assistance.

Feedback Pattern Priority Actionable Update Reason for Change
Users could not easily determine which assistance programs they qualified for. High Add an eligibility checker that recommends resources based on income, household size, and location. All three users wanted more personalized recommendations before choosing a resource.
The search results were too broad and difficult to compare. High Improve the search feature by adding filters, sorting options, and keyword matching. Users wanted to find the most relevant resources more quickly.
Users were unsure what to do after finding a resource. High Add step-by-step application guides and eligibility information to each resource page. Users wanted clear instructions before applying for assistance.
The AI Resource Assistant provided responses that were too general. Medium Expand the AI Assistant to provide personalized recommendations and answer follow-up questions. Users expected more detailed guidance based on their individual needs.
Users wanted additional information before selecting a resource. Medium Update the "Learn More" sections with eligibility requirements, required documents, and contact information. This helps users make informed decisions without leaving the website.
Some users wanted a quicker way to find nearby services. Low Add an interactive map showing nearby community resources. A visual map would make locating assistance easier.

Priority Summary

Next Iteration Plan

The next version of the Community Resource Hub will focus on making it easier for users to find the right assistance quickly and confidently. The highest priority updates include personalized recommendations, a more powerful search system, and step-by-step guidance that helps users understand how to apply for community resources. These improvements directly address the most common issues identified during user testing and AI focus group evaluations.

Changes & Rationale

Based on feedback from the AI focus group and user testing sessions, I made several improvements to my Community Resource Hub prototype. Each change was designed to better meet the needs of low-income individuals and families by making the website easier to use and more helpful.

Change Made Rationale
Improved the navigation menu so users can switch between pages more easily. Several users wanted a faster and simpler way to move between resource categories without getting confused.
Enhanced the search bar to better match keywords with community resources. Users reported that searching for resources took too long and the results were too broad.
Added an AI Resource Assistant. Users wanted guidance when they were unsure where to begin or which resources best fit their needs.
Expanded the "Learn More" sections with additional resource information. Feedback showed that users wanted more details before deciding which organization to contact.
Organized resources into separate categories for Food, Housing, Healthcare, Education, and Jobs. Grouping similar services together makes information easier to find and reduces the time spent searching.
Updated the website layout and styling with a cleaner, modern design. Users found that a more organized layout improved readability and made navigation easier.
Created a single-page website with multiple interactive screens instead of separate pages. This provides a smoother user experience by allowing users to switch between sections without reloading the website.
Added a Contact page so users can request additional assistance or provide feedback. Users wanted an easy way to ask questions when they could not find the information they needed.

Overall Rationale

The feedback consistently showed that users wanted a website that was simple, organized, and easy to navigate. The changes I made focused on improving the search experience, providing more detailed resource information, and making it easier for users to locate the assistance they need. These updates help the prototype better achieve its goal of connecting low-income individuals and families with reliable community resources quickly and efficiently.
