Section 4: The Prototype

Based on our top ideas, we decided to implement a prototype that aligns best with our target users' needs for efficient and compatible study group matching. We considered various delivery methods and chose one that we believe will be most effective.

Selected prototype type: Mobile app

We feel this delivery method is the best for our innovation and target users because university students are highly accustomed to using mobile applications for academic and social interactions. A mobile app offers convenience, push notifications for new matches or group messages, and the ability to find study groups on the go, which aligns with busy student schedules.

Key features to implement in our prototype:

Our mobile app prototype will focus on the following key features, representing core screens and functionalities:

• Onboarding/Profile Creation: Users create profiles with academic major, enrolled courses, availability, preferred study styles (e.g., quiet, discussion, problem-solving), and commitment level.
• Course-Specific Group Search: Users can search for study groups based on specific courses and sections they are enrolled in.
• Matching Algorithm/Suggestions: The app suggests compatible study groups or individual study partners based on profile data, course, and availability.
• Group Creation: Users can create new study groups, setting parameters like course, size, and study focus.
• Direct Messaging/In-App Chat: Functionality for direct messages between users and group chats for established study groups.
• Session Scheduling: Basic calendar integration or in-app scheduling for study sessions.
• User Reviews/Ratings (Future): A system for users to rate study group experiences for future reference (considered for v2, not initial prototype).
