Last Sunday I came home with a new laptop!
The screen on my old laptop had only 60% sRGB, while the new one has 100% sRGB. Looking at the most basic things is crazy. I've been scrolling through art websites for days. My new favorite artist is João Bragato (Artstation link), and I've used one of his pieces as my new background to show off the colors.
O Arqueiro de Mil-Flores means Archer of a Thousand Flowers.
This new screen will help me make color accurate websites and documents. I'm relieved, because I made a mistake not long ago where I thought a subtle off-white graphic was the same shade as the white background and removed it.
Apparently, there is a subreddit (linked here) for the Legion line. It seems like people mostly post there to congratulate each other for buying one lol (kids?), but hopefully I can get some good tips and troubleshooting there. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to make the perfect Halloween and Christmas RGB keyboard customizations...
I hate the trackpad! My old one had physical buttons and this one doesn't, meaning mechanically speaking I just can't hold down both at once to swim and fly in Warcraft. I really struggle to understand why this is an outmoded feature-- I couldn't find a single modern laptop with trackpad buttons. Whatever is going on with my hands makes mouse clicks difficult (EMG ruled out carpal tunnel, doctors are stumped) so it's ~pretty important~.
I'm trying to figure out how to bind gestures to that sort of click, possibly with AutoHotkey, but it's slow going. I'm pretty sure my trackpad doesn't use the normal notation for right and left clicks but AHK no longer offers keystroke tracking.
It also doesn't solve the problem of the right and left click areas of the trackpad still tracking finger movement, meaning often when I try to click the cursor jumps around. Pretty bad.
World of Warcraft actually looks really strange. The colors are all over the place-- icons are oversaturayed while other UI elements are washed out, and the gamefield is saturated in a muddy way. I can't seem to fix anything in NVIDIA's display settings without knocking something else out of whack. For example, plants I know to be bright green on stone I know to be orange-red look muddy now, but if I turn red brightness down to fix the plants, the rocks look greyish-- while turning green up muddies the rocks. I'm suspicious that perhaps there is a per-game setting I don't know about that needs calibrating, separate from the ingame options menu. It's a shame taking photos of screens doesn't work and print screen doesn't capture display issues because I wish I could show people for troubleshooting.
Oof ouch owie my eyes
