Mother is a JRPG series with heavy emphasis on narrative driven combat. The Mother series is what we English speakers know as Earthbound in the states.
Although the series never sold well in Western Territories, it still managed to attract a cult following. Because of this sudden admiration, fans of the game have asked the developers and publishers - on multiple occasions - to release the game in America. For reasons that will soon be discussed, this may never happen.
Mother 3 revolves around a family consisting of young boy named Lucas, his twin brother, Claus, the mother and father to these two, Hinawa and Flint, and the family dog, Boney.
The game's theme revolves around the clash between natural and manmade. This is especially prevalent in the logo, where it looks as if the wooden text is being corrupted by metal. Other places where this theme can be found involves Lucas and party's struggle against The Pigmasks, a group of capitalist fascists whose goal is to make the world more profitable, and ruin the natural order of the once peaceful village.
Since Mother 3 is a JRPG, it shares a lot of similarities to other games of the genre, most notably Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, amongst others. However, where the game really shines is it's combat. For most JRPGs, combat systems are rigid and tedious - a product of their time. In the case of Mother 3, you may deal slightly more damage by pushing a button on the beat of the music, which makes things a lot more addictive. In addition, when a party member takes "mortal damage", they aren't immediately defeated, but they have time before the health bar scrolls down to 0 to heal. These are both neat improvements to the game!

Of course, Nintendo has considered, but there's always been stumbling points from time to time. Eventually, Mother 3 was localized, however it was done by the fans - most notably, one talented translator known as Clyde "Tomato" Mandelin. By all accounts - he is a professional, and a lot of the humor in the base game made it in surprisingly intact. However - because of the translation -
