Since the evolution of humans, devices had been used for calculations for thousands of years. One of the earliest and well-known devices was the abacus. In 1822, the father of Computer Science Charles Babbage developed what would be the first mechanical computer. In 1833, he designed an Analytical Engine which was a general-purpose computer, containing basic flow chart principles and the concept of integrated memory. More than a century later, the first electronic computer used for general purposes was created. It was the ENIAC which stands for the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer.
The inventors were John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert. Later, computers got smaller and processing got faster. The first laptop was introduced in 1981.
